Travel Constipation: Tips to Keep Things Moving While on the Go

Traveling is undoubtedly one of the best things in life. It’s a great excuse to explore a new city and enjoy everything the locals have to offer. You’re devouring all the food, indulging in a few drinks, and having the best time of your life.

But at some point on your trip, it dawns on you: You haven’t pooped in a few days.

Travel constipation is pretty common among many travelers, and there are a few causes for that: changes in routine, diet, and dehydration. If you’re currently facing this uncomfortable issue, here are some tips to help you stay regular and enjoy your travels to the fullest.

1. Hydrate and drink lots of water

One of the most common causes of travel constipation is dehydration. Changes in climate, altitude, and activity level can lead to increased fluid loss, so it’s important to stay well-hydrated. Carry a reusable water bottle with you and aim for at least eight cups (2 liters) a day. Avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption, as they can contribute to dehydration.

2. Maintain a balanced diet

When you're on the road, it's tempting to indulge in new and exciting foods. While trying local cuisines is a part of the travel experience, don't forget to incorporate fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your meals. These fiber-rich foods can help keep your digestive system moving smoothly. Pack healthy snacks like nuts, dried fruits, and whole-grain crackers to have on hand when you're hungry between meals.

3. Don't skip breakfast

Breakfast is often considered the most important meal of the day, and this holds true while traveling as well. A hearty breakfast can kickstart your digestive system and set the tone for the day. Opt for foods like oatmeal, yogurt, or whole-grain toast with some fruit to provide your body with the necessary fiber and nutrients.

4. Stay active

Long hours spent sitting in planes, cars, or buses can contribute to constipation. Make an effort to incorporate physical activity into your travel routine. Take short walks during layovers, explore your destination on foot, or perform simple stretches in your hotel room. If you want, make use of the hotel gym in your downtime too! Physical activity can help stimulate bowel movements and alleviate constipation.

5. Maintain a routine

Travel can disrupt your daily routine, including your bowel habits. Try to stick to a regular eating and sleeping schedule as much as possible. Consistency can signal to your body when it's time to move your bowels, reducing the risk of constipation.

6. Bring your poop-friendly supplements

No matter where you are in the world, it’s important to take care of yourself. Incorporate health supplements like Poop Like A Champion’s Super Fiber Gummies into your travel routine. They’re functional, yummy, and perfect for on-the-go snacking. Plus, they might help you with travel constipation!

7. Listen to your body

Finally, pay attention to your body's signals. When you feel the urge to use the restroom, don't ignore it. Holding in bowel movements can exacerbate constipation. Make use of restroom facilities when they're available to you.

Safe travels!

Travel constipation may be an inconvenience, but with the right strategies, you can keep it from ruining your adventure. Remember to take care of your digestive health and enjoy your travel experiences.
